Robert Parker is a Los Angeles based photographer who fell in love with photography when he borrowed his dad’s camera to take pictures of his friends surfing.
His formal studies in photography began at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, and he then earned his BFA at San Francisco Art Institute where his mentor was Imogen
Cunningham. She introduced him to her close friend Leo Holub who was interviewing candidates for a new photography program at Stanford University. Leo hired Robert as a full-time Lecturer in Photography.
The Stanford program was immediately successful. Over the next nine years, they taught thousands of students and Robert founded the MFA program in photography.
Robert also showed his own work at Smith-Andersen Gallery in Palo Alto as well as at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara. In San Francisco he was represented by Gump’s Gallery.
The current collection reflects unexpected moments and intriguing shapes using film cameras including Leicas, Nikons, and his favorite, a vintage Hasselblad.
