Slide FILM Printing and Developing
Printing from slides and/or 120mm Chrome
- We can print from mounted chrome film using our Noritsu machine.
- It’s the most economical way to print from slides. They will be standard prints, and there is limited control to manipulate the image if faded/damaged/dirty/scratched etc.
- The machine does a minimal crop of the image, and it will never be 100% of the original image size
- typically you’ll get about 95%
- The maximum print size would be 12″x36″.
- We do not unmount the slides for printing on the Noritsu machine; there is a carrier just for 35mm slides.
- or unmounted chrome film (such as 120mm), then your film must be either a whole roll or in strips.
- i.e. individual cut single frames cannot be printed in the Noritsu machine.
About Slide Film Processing
All E6 processed films are generally referenced as Chrome Film/Positive Film and come in various sizes or formats: 120mm, 4×5, 5×7, 8×10 & 11×14 film. Currently, only 120mm, 4×5 & 8×10 are available and are still in short supply.
Unlike Color(C41) and B&W negative films, Chromes(E6) cannot be printed in the darkroom directly. A long long time ago, we made negatives of the chromes called “Inter negatives” and then exposed them onto paper in the darkroom to produce prints from them. Unfortunately, the process to produce inter-negs does not exist anymore
Other ways to print from slides for higher quality and size
- Have the slide (or any E6) film scanned on the Imacon or Drum Scanner first, at a size based on the output size.
- Then prepare the file for printing with a photo editor: file enhancement/color correct/retouch/compose/borders/crop/size the print etc.
- Once the file is prepped for printing, one can use the digital file to make a print: Photographic print (Lightjet up to 4’x10′), Pigment print (Inkjet up to 5’x10′) OR up to 12″x36” on the Nortisu machine.
